Compare the2024 Kia EV6VS 2024 Genesis Electrified G80

Both the EV6 and the Electrified G80 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard front crash prevention system, and its headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the EV6 its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2019, a rating granted to only 127 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Electrified G80 is only a standard “Top Safety Pick” for 2019.

There are almost 3 times as many Kia dealers as there are Genesis dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the EV6’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Kia vehicles are better in initial quality than Genesis vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Kia above average in initial quality. With 6 more problems per 100 vehicles, Genesis is rated lower.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Kia vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Kia first in reliability, above the industry average. With 10 more problems per 100 vehicles, Genesis is ranked fourth.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2023 Auto Issue reports that Kia vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Kia 3 places higher in reliability than Genesis.

The EV6 GT’s standard electric motors produces 211 more horsepower (576 vs. 365) and 29 lbs.-ft. more torque (545 vs. 516) than the Electrified G80’s electric motors.

As tested in Car and Driver the EV6 GT electric motors is faster than the Genesis Electrified G80:

For better traction, the EV6 GT-Line e-AWD’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Electrified G80 (255/45R20 vs. 245/45R19).

The EV6 GT’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Electrified G80’s 45 series front tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the EV6 GT has standard 21-inch wheels. The Electrified G80’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.

The EV6 GT handles at .92 G’s, while the Electrified G80 pulls only .90 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Kia EV6 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 250 to 1050 pounds less than the Genesis Electrified G80.

The EV6 Light/Wind is 1 foot shorter than the Electrified G80, making the EV6 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the EV6 uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Electrified G80 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The EV6 has .3 inches more front legroom, 1.4 inches more rear headroom and 3.1 inches more rear legroom than the Electrified G80.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the EV6’s rear seats recline. The Electrified G80’s rear seats don’t recline.

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the EV6 easier. The EV6’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 28.6 inches, while the Electrified G80’s liftover is 30 inches.

The EV6’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The Electrified G80 doesn’t offer folding rear seats, only a ski pass-through.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts detailed tests on headlights for their range both straight ahead and in curves and to be certain they don’t exceed acceptable amounts of glare to oncoming drivers. The EV6’s headlights were rated “Good” by the IIHS, while the Electrified G80’s headlights are rated “Acceptable.”

The EV6 Wind/GT-Line/GT has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the rear seat, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Electrified G80 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The EV6 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Electrified G80 doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the EV6 first among compact suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The Electrified G80 isn’t in the top three.

The EV6 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2023. The Electrified G80 has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.

A group of representative automotive journalists from North America selected the EV6 as the 2023 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year. The Electrified G80 has never been chosen.

The Kia EV6 outsold the Genesis G80 by over two to one during 2022.
